Cameroon suffer double injury blow ahead of key World Cup playoff against DR Congo
Cameroon have been dealt with a devastating blow as striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and midfielder Frank Zambo Anguissa have been ruled out of their crucial 2026 World Cup playoff against DR Congo.
The Indomitable Lions missed out on automatic World Cup qualification, and are set to participate in a playoff to determine their fate for the tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The playoff structure sees Cameroon face DR Congo on November 13 in Morocco, while Nigeria takes on Gabon in a high-stake clash. The winners will compete on November 16 for a spot in the intercontinental playoffs.
But Cameroon’s preparation for the high-stake clash on Thursday has suffered a major setback, following an injury setback to influential duo of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Frank Zambo Anguissa.
Coach Marc Brys will have to revise his tactical plan for the much-anticipated clash against Congo without the duo.
Meanwhile, Andre Onana, who currently plies his trade for Trabzonspor in Turkey is facing a late fitness test for the crucial clash.
