2025 FIFA U17 Men’s World Cup: Zambia advance to knockout stage after 1-1 draw with Brazil

Zambia have sealed their place in the knockout stage of the 2025 FIFA U17 Men’s World Cup following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Brazil in their final Group H encounter.

The Chipolopolo cadets wrapped up the group stage unbeaten, having secured victories in their opening two matches before facing Brazil on Monday.

Zambia went ahead in the 26th minute through Jonathan Kalimina, whose well-taken goal gave his side a 1-0 lead going into the break. However, Brazil drew level in the 81st minute courtesy of Dell’s strike to make it 1-1.

Both sides pushed for a winner late on, but the match ended all square.

The result means Zambia finished second in Group H with seven points, behind Brazil only on goal difference, and will now progress to the Round of 16.

The Chipolopolo will need to continue working hard in the knockout stage to stand any chance of going past the Round of 32.

From their performance in the group stage, the team looks in good shape to cause problems for any side at the ongoing tournament in Qatar.
