Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has confirmed Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho will not be available for their Premiership clash against Kilmarnock.

The former Manchester City star remain sidelined as the gears up for the much-anticipated encounter on Sunday.

Iheanacho, who joined Celtic in the summer under Brendan Rodgers, has been out since suffering a hamstring injury just four minutes into their 2-1 Europa League win over Sturm Graz.

Rodgers was later dismissed, leaving the Nigerian striker’s future uncertain amid reports linking him with a January exit.

Providing an update, O’Neill said, “Yeah, he is going to be out for a few more weeks… after Sunday we’ve got this fortnight break and we’ll see how things go from there. But yeah, he certainly won’t be available for Sunday anyway.”

Celtic, currently nine points behind league leaders Hearts, have struggled for consistency this season — one of the reasons behind Rodgers’ dismissal. However, the team appears to be regaining form, winning three of their last five matches in all competitions.

Fans will hope Iheanacho’s return after the break boosts the squad’s attacking options as O’Neill looks to keep their title hopes alive.
