Katsina United firmly deny assault on Ghana’s Nana Kwame Abraham in Nigerian league match
Katsina United has firmly denied and condemned misleading, and unfounded reports over alleged throat slit on Ghanaian midfielder Nana Kwame Abraham in their game against FC Barau on Saturday.
The Nigerian Premier Football League was thrown into shock on Saturday following a gruesome incident, where Nana Kwame Abraham nearly lost his life.
The Ghanaian midfielder, who is in the books of FC Barau was brutally attacked by unruly Katsina United fans after the visitors’ equalizer in the highly-tensed clash on Saturday
The chaotic scenes unfolded at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium when Barau FC levelled the score 1-1 through Orji Kalu in the 69th minute.
Reports emanating from Nigeria suggest that the Ghanaian midfielder was caught and had his throat slit in a horrifying act of violence that sent shockwaves across the football community.
The match was briefly stopped before continuing, with Abraham replaced by Hillary Ekawu following a deep cut on his neck.
But Katsina United in a statement has expressed deep disappointment over the unverified and sensational reports, capable of damaging the club’s image.
“The publication made several false claims, suggesting that supporters invaded the pitch, that the situation was chaotic, and that a player had been slaughtered. These assertions are entirely false and do not reflect what truly transpired,” the statement read.
“We want to make it categorically clear that the report published is misleading, unrealistic, and entirely baseless. Katsina United remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and fair play both on and off the field,” the club reiterated.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Premier Football League has fined and banned Katsina United following the unfortunate incident.
Katsina United have been fined $6,267 and ordered to play all their remaining home matches behind closed doors at a neutral venue.
