Togo’s football bids farewell to Jean Waké Nibombé
The Togolese football on November 8 to say a heartfelt goodbye to Jean Waké Nibombé, the legendary goalkeeper who passed away on October 16 at 51.
The funeral service at Notre-Dame de la Croix church in Agbalépédogan drew family, friends, former teammates, football federation members, and government officials, all gathered in deep emotion.
Mourners praised Nibombé’s humility, discipline, and devotion, remembering the lasting mark he left on Togolese football. During the blessing ceremony, the priest moved the crowd with his words: “On the threshold of his home, the Lord awaits Jean Waké Nibombé. He fought the good fight and kept his faith. Today, he rests in peace.”
After the service, a solemn procession accompanied Nibombé to his final resting place in Yokoè cemetery. Tears, prayers, and music paid tribute to a man whose loyalty, faith, and love for his country inspired many.
Nibombé’s legacy will endure, cherished by those who watched him dedicate his life to football and national pride.
