Moroccan youngster Ibrahim Salah climbed off the bench on Thursday to seal a 3-1 win for FC Basel against FCSB in the Europa League.

The forward missed out on a starting role on the matchday but came on in the second half when he replaced Benie Traore in the 76th minute.

Basel took an early lead in the 19th minute through Xherdan Shaqiri, who calmly converted a penalty. FCSB drew level in the 57th minute when Darius Olaru fired a stunning strike into the bottom corner from outside the box.

Shaqiri restored Basel’s advantage in the 73rd minute, reacting quickest to a rebound to slot home his second of the night. With two minutes left on the clock, Ibrahim Salah put the result beyond doubt after being teed up by Shaqiri, curling the ball beautifully into the right corner to make it 3-1.

The win pushes FC Basel to 17th in the Europa League standings. The team must target more wins in upcoming games to improve their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition.
