Youcef Atal targets glory with Algeria at AFCON 2025
Algerian defender Youcef Atal has declared his determination to lead his country to success at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The right-back, who currently plays for Al-Sadd in Qatar, shared his confidence in Algeria’s potential to make a major impact at the continental showpiece.
Atal said the team feels optimistic after securing World Cup qualification and now aims to replicate that momentum at the AFCON.
He believes consistency, fitness, and collective effort will be vital to Algeria’s ambitions. “We qualified for the World Cup, and now we must shift our focus to the AFCON,” he said.
“I hope we have fewer injuries and that the team gives everything to achieve something special in Morocco.”
The 28-year-old praised national team coach Vladimir Petkovic for his leadership and strategic approach.
He said the coach has successfully blended experienced players with a new generation of talents, creating a balanced and competitive squad
. “Everything is going well with the new coach,” Atal added. “The young players needed time to adjust, but they have settled in well and played an important role in qualifying for the World Cup. That’s a very positive sign for the future.”
Atal also welcomed the inclusion of goalkeeper Luca Zidane, describing his arrival as an important addition to the national setup.
He believes Zidane’s presence will raise the team’s standards and provide healthy competition within the squad.
“Any player who can make a difference is welcome,” Atal said. “Zidane’s arrival is a great thing. He can help the team grow and push everyone to perform at their best.”
Despite ongoing speculation about a possible return to European football, Atal made it clear that his focus remains fully on his current club, Al-Sadd.
He dismissed any talk of transfers, stressing his happiness and stability in Qatar. “I’m not thinking about returning to Europe right now,” he explained. “I’m enjoying my time in Qatar with my family, and my goal is to win trophies with Al-Sadd.”
Atal’s remarks reflect a renewed sense of ambition within the Algerian camp as preparations for the AFCON intensify.
The former Nice defender’s commitment and leadership underline the hunger among players to restore Algeria’s dominance on the African stage.
With the tournament set to take place in Morocco, Atal and his teammates know the expectations of millions of Algerians will be high.
For Atal, the challenge represents more than competition—it is an opportunity to inspire national pride and achieve something lasting.
“We all want to make history with this team,” he said. “Every player feels that responsibility, and we will fight for it.”
As Algeria continues its buildup to AFCON 2025, Atal’s confidence captures the spirit of a team eager to reclaim its place among Africa’s elite.
