CAF dismisses Orlando Pirates’ protest against Saint-Eloi Lupopo
CAF has rejected the Orlando Pirates’ protest against Saint-Eloi Lupopo, bringing relief to the Congolese club after days of uncertainty surrounding their Champions League fate, as per sources.
After progressing through a heated two-legged qualifier against Orlando Pirates, Saint-Eloi Lupopo’s success was put in doubt. The controversy flared when their coach, Guy Bokassa, was seen on the bench, despite a ban handed down following the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. In response, the Orlando Pirates swiftly lodged a complaint with CAF, challenging Lupopo’s eligibility to play with their banned coach present.
Lupopo defender Dieumerci Moukoko’s controversial performance in the second leg added to the intensity as fans passionately debated the outcome.
Now, with CAF’s decision in, Saint-Eloi Lupopo’s place in the Champions League group stage appears secure.
The ruling calms anxieties among their supporters and the squad, who can now channel their energy towards making an impact on Africa’s biggest club stage.
