Naby Keita set for move to Ferencvaros amidst struggles at Werder Bremen

German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen have decided to move on from Guinean midfielder Naby Keita.

Sporting director Peter Niemeyer confirmed that the club believes a permanent transfer would be the best outcome for all involved.

“For all parties, a permanent transfer would of course be best,” Niemeyer stated.

Keïta, who is currently on loan at Hungarian side Ferencváros Budapest until the end of the year, has yet to receive any offers for a full transfer. Should he return to Bremen in January, the club plans to exclude him from first-team activities.

“Should he return, we will allow him to participate in training sessions away from the professionals,” Niemeyer added, outlining the midfielder’s possible options — either individual training or sessions with the regional league side.

The 30-year-old joined Werder Bremen from Liverpool in 2023, but his stint has been plagued by injuries and disciplinary issues.

He was notably suspended last year after refusing to travel for a league match against Bayer Leverkusen, expressing frustration over his omission from the starting lineup.

Keïta’s time in Bremen now appears to be nearing its end, with the club ready to move forward without him.
