‘He lacked maturity’ – Raphinha criticises Lamine Yamal for pre-El Clásico comments
Barcelona winger Raphinha has publicly criticised teenage sensation Lamine Yamal for making provocative comments ahead of Sunday’s El Clásico, suggesting the remarks gave Real Madrid extra motivation in their 2-1 win at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid triumphed through goals from Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham on the matchday, with Fermin Lopez netting the only consolation for Barcelona.
However, much of the pre-match narrative centred around Lamine Yamal’s controversial remarks accusing Real Madrid of “robbing, complaining and influencing” results, comments that fueled tension going into the tie.
Tempers flared at full-time, with several Madrid players, including Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior, confronting the 18-year-old. Vinicius was heard telling him he “talks too much” as a heated altercation broke out between both squads.
Speaking to DANZ after the game, Raphinha, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, admitted Lamine’s comments were ill-judged.
“He was guilty of being young and lacking maturity to say what he said. His words gave Real Madrid extra motivation,” the Brazilian said, as reported by Defensa Central.
Barcelona assistant coach Marcus Sorg also offered a measured response, noting that Lamine is still recovering from his injury.
“I think he’s lacking spark after the injury. He needs rhythm and more games. It’s normal; he’s 18 years old, and we have to help him,” Sorg stated.
