AC Milan turn to Ghanaian-Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki amid Maignan uncertainty

AC Milan are weighing a move for Parma’s rising star Zion Suzuki as uncertainty grows over the future of France goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The Rossoneri have struggled to make progress in contract talks with Maignan, whose deal expires at the end of the season, prompting the club to explore potential replacements in advance.

Suzuki, who has Ghanaian heritage through his mother, has emerged as Milan’s preferred option should negotiations with Maignan collapse.

The 23-year-old has been a standout performer for Parma this season, earning plaudits for his consistency, reflexes and passing range.

His performances have already drawn tentative interest from Inter Milan and Chelsea, underlining his growing reputation across Europe.

Now in his second Serie A campaign, Suzuki has been pivotal to Parma’s strong start, helping them stay competitive in Italy’s top flight with his calm presence and command in goal.

Milan officials have reportedly reached out to intermediaries connected to Parma, although they are yet to open formal discussions with the club.

Parma are understood to value Suzuki highly, with reports indicating the goalkeeper is tied to the club until 2029 and will not be sold before 2026 unless his €40 million release clause is triggered.

Despite the growing speculation surrounding his future, Suzuki has maintained a composed stance.

“Every match is a new challenge,” he said earlier this month. “I just want to keep improving.”

Milan, meanwhile, remain keen to resolve Maignan’s situation but are preparing for all scenarios.

Should an extension prove impossible, Suzuki’s name is likely to stay top of their shortlist as the Rossoneri plan for the next era between the posts.
