Morocco’s football revolution shows no signs of slowing down. Fresh from winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup and riding high on their historic 2022 World Cup semifinal appearance, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has added another key piece to its ever-evolving puzzle.

Spanish tactician Abián Perdomo, who has spent the last 13 years with Real Madrid, has officially joined the Moroccan setup in a high-ranking technical role.

According to Marca, the Canary Island native – formerly head of training and methodology at Real Madrid – will work closely with Fathi Jamal, a veteran figure in Moroccan football and current director of the federation’s technical department.

Perdomo’s arrival is part of a broader FRMF strategy to elevate the nation’s technical and developmental infrastructure, ensuring that Morocco becomes not just a regional power but a consistent global force.

Perdomo’s credentials speak for themselves. During his time at Valdebebas, he played a vital role in shaping Real Madrid’s youth methodology, serving as a bridge between the academy and the first team.

He is credited with helping nurture emerging stars like Nico Paz and was part of Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff during Real Madrid’s 2021-22 La Liga and Champions League-winning campaign.

His experience also includes stints in Atlético Madrid’s youth system, giving him deep insight into Spain’s most sophisticated player development structures.

The FRMF’s decision to recruit Perdomo highlights its commitment to sustainability beyond short-term success.

Working alongside figures like Fernando da Cruz and Óscar Garro, Perdomo will focus on building robust grassroots programs and nurturing homegrown Moroccan talents rather than relying solely on diaspora players from Europe.

With the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon and Morocco’s ambitions reaching new heights, Perdomo’s appointment signals a clear message: the Atlas Lions are investing heavily in expertise to secure a long-term place among football’s elite.
