Gambian referee Ngum Fatou to handle Nigeria-Benin WAFCON 2026 qualifier
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Gambian referee Ngum Fatou to take charge of the first-leg clash between Nigeria’s Super Falcons and the Benin Republic’s Amazons in the ongoing qualifiers for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The first leg is scheduled to take place at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé on Thursday, October 23 before the reverse fixture at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Tuesday, October 28, where the Falcons will aim to complete the job in front of their home supporters.
Fatou will be assisted by Mauritanian duo of Mariem Chedad and Hamedine Houleye as the assistant referees respectively, with fellow Gabian serving as the fourth match official for the game.
Meanwhile, the continental football governing body has settled on Nigerien, Halimatou Hamidou will serve as the match commissioner, while Martha Nyekanyeka of Malawi will act as the referee assessor.
Nigeria coach Justin Madugu and his charges opened their training camp on Monday to commence preparation for the crucial game. The Super Falcons are aiming for a record 15th WAFCON appearance.
Benin, on the other hand, are preparing massively for the game as they aim to upset the Super Falcons to secure maiden WAFCON qualification.
