Former German international Thomas Helmer has backed Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy to be the difference maker for Dortmund this weekend when they take on Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Ahead of the highly anticipated Der Klassiker, Helmer, who represented both Bayern and Dortmund during his playing career, believes the duel between Guirassy and Harry Kane will be crucial in determining the outcome.

“The goal must always be to win. Dortmund have become stable under Kovac,” Helmer noted, adding that Guirassy could be the decisive factor. “For me, a lot depends on Guirassy. He can really hurt Bayern.”

Comparing the two prolific forwards, the 1996 European champion pointed out their contrasting styles.

“With Kane, you’re lucky as a defender that he sometimes drops back, so you don’t always have to face him directly,” he said.

He went on to praise Guirassy’s predatory instincts in the box: “He lurks up front, is extremely cold-blooded, and can hardly be separated from the ball.”

However, Helmer concluded by acknowledging Kane’s all-round contribution.

“For me, Kane is the more complete player. He even heads balls out of his own penalty area and provides more assists. He plays for the team — Kane would even play right-back if it helped the team,” he remarked.
