Algeria’s Amine Gouiri undergoes checks on dislocated shoulder after returning to Marseille from international duty
Algerian forward Amine Gouiri has undergone checks on his dislocated shoulder after returning to Olympique Marseille from international duty.
According to L’Équipe, the 25-year-old underwent scans that yielded positive results following the injury he sustained during Algeria’s 2-1 FIFA World Cup qualifying win over Uganda on Tuesday.
Gouiri collided with Uganda goalkeeper Omar Magoola in the 85th minute and was stretchered off after his right shoulder was popped back into place.
The Marseille attacker, who had previously suffered a shoulder problem in September, also left the pitch with a bandage on his head after hitting the ground hard. Although there were initial fears of a concussion, which allowed Algeria to make a sixth substitution, further examinations on Wednesday confirmed there was no sign of one.
While the early results of his shoulder tests were encouraging, additional assessments are scheduled for Friday to determine whether surgery will be required.
L’Équipe reports that Gouiri has not been ruled out of Marseille’s upcoming Ligue 1 clash against Le Havre AC, though the club’s medical staff are expected to take a cautious approach given the attacking options available.
