Nigeria coach Eric Chelle hails Victor Osimhen as ‘best striker’ in the world
Head coach of the Nigeria national team, Eric Chelle has hailed Victor Osimhen as the best the striker in the world following his exploits in the crucial World Cup qualifier against Benin.
Osimhen, who plies his trade for Galatasaray scored a sensational hat-trick as Nigeria thumped Benin 4-0 to secure playoff spot in the World Cup qualification. The forward netted twice in the first half before completing his treble early in the second half of the match, sealing a memorable performance for the home fans.
The Super Eagles will compete in the continental playoff set for November 2025 before the inter-continental playoff to determine their fate for the global showpiece next year.
However, Eric Chelle has showered praise on the former Napoli star, claiming he is the best striker in the world.
“I am very happy for my players, especially the best striker in the world, Victor. Now we go to Morocco; it’s going to be very difficult. This is the start, and I am proud of everyone and even the fans because they pushed us.” He said.
Meanwhile, the former Mali coach has defended the team’s earlier inconsistent performances, stressing their commitment.
“To me for sure they are my champions and I am very happy for the players. The football is like that sometimes you make mistakes but they like the country Nigeria and they give everything,” he added.
