The Danish coach Jess Thorup, freshly appointed as the head of Al Ahly, has chosen to delay his first training session by 48 hours.

After being formally introduced to media and fans in Cairo, Thorup explained that he prefers to wait until the arrival of his full coaching staff.

“I am here now.. excited to see you all, and together we will achieve great results,” Thorup said enthusiastically after signing his contract.

Thorup landed in Cairo on Thursday and spent time in discussions with club president Mahmoud El Khatib and the planning committee, laying out his vision for the new era. Yet, the delay stemmed from complications with his assistants, who remain committed to duties with other clubs. Steps are already in place to resolve this—tickets are booked, and five technical team members are expected soon to join and support Thorup’s project.

The manager is settling into life in Egypt, awaiting residence near the club. Al Ahly fans look forward to a new journey, while Thorup, proud of his new role, is committed to honoring the team’s legacy, driving success, and nurturing the next generation of players.
