Hossam Hassan leads Egypt’s national team resurgence for World Cup success
Egypt’s national team has reached new heights under manager Hossam Hassan, officially qualifying for the 2026 World Cup after a convincing win over Djibouti.
This marks Egypt’s fourth appearance at the tournament and Hassan, who played in the 1990 World Cup, could become the first Egyptian to participate both as a player and as a coach.
Since his appointment in February 2024, Hassan has transformed the squad, injecting youth, discipline, and tactical flexibility. Rather than focusing solely on star Mohamed Salah, Hassan diversified the team’s attacking options to include players like Zizo, Trezeguet, and Omar Marmoush. Trezeguet, in particular, has matched Salah’s contributions, while newcomer Ibrahim Adel has brought fresh energy.
Defensively, Egypt has shown remarkable improvement, conceding no goals in their last five official matches and keeping ten clean sheets in 15 games. Hassan lowered the squad’s average age, phasing out older players and promoting talents from the Olympic team, such as Ahmed Kouka and Mahmoud Saber.
Hassan’s leadership style emphasizes discipline, calmly handling even clashes with top stars and maintaining control. “Qualifying for the World Cup isn’t the end, it’s a new beginning for fixing Egyptian football’s path,” said Hassan. As Egypt heads toward the tournament, hopes are high for a memorable performance that reflects both unity and growth
