2026 World Cup qualifiers: Fashion Sakala scores to secure victory for Zambia against Tanzania

Al-Fayha forward Fashion Sakala scored a decisive goal for Zambia on Wednesday, securing a narrow 1-0 victory against Tanzania in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The highly-rated attacker started the game for his national team and put up an impressive performance.

On the matchday, both national teams put up a good performance in the first half, but neither side could get on the scoresheet.

After recess, Fashion Sakala broke the deadlock in the 76th minute after he was set up by Lubambo Musonda in the 76th minute.

Tanzania made a late surge in their efforts to get back into the game, but were unsuccessful.

Following the narrow win against Tanzania, Zambia now trails Tanzania by just a point in the Group E standings.

In the other group game played on Wednesday, Niger thumped Congo 3-1 to move to second place in Group E.

The win also means Niger have bagged six points in their last two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Unfortunately, their late surge is not enough to secure automatic qualification to next year’s mundial.
