Pyramids FC advance to Champions League round of 32 with commanding victory over APR FC
Egyptian giants Pyramids FC, the reigning CAF Champions League champions, secured their passage to the Round of 32 with a dominant 3-0 victory over Rwanda’s APR FC at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.
This impressive home performance followed their 2-0 away victory in Rwanda, sealing a comprehensive 5-0 aggregate triumph.
The defending champions took control of the match in the first half, with Mostafa Abdel Raouf “Zico” breaking the deadlock in the 43rd minute from a well-delivered cross. The second half saw Pyramids extend their lead through Ahmed Atef “Qetta” in the 61st minute, courtesy of an excellent cross from Moroccan right-back Mohamed El-Sheibei. Mohamed Hamdy completed the scoring just two minutes later with a clinical finish from a long pass by Blati Touré.
Under Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić, Pyramids controlled the game from start to finish, creating numerous chances while APR FC struggled to mount any meaningful attacks. The Rwandan side, coached by Moroccan Abdel Rahim Talib, appeared completely overwhelmed by their Egyptian hosts’ superior quality and intensity.
Pyramids now await their Round of 32 clash against Ethiopian side Telecom FC, as they begin their title defense campaign. The first leg will take place on October 17-19, with the return leg scheduled for October 24-26.
