Nigeria: Felix Agu cleared for Super Eagles debut after eligibility concerns resolved

Nigerian international Felix Agu is set to spend several months on the sidelines after sustaining a serious injury in Germany.

The 26-year-old full-back sustained the injury during Werder Bremen’s 1–0 win against FC St. Pauli, forcing him off the pitch. Subsequent medical examinations confirmed that Agu suffered a syndesmosis injury, ruling him out of action for several months.

Head coach Horst Steffen expressed his disappointment over the news.

“I’m incredibly sorry for Felix. We will do everything we can to get him fit again as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, we have to assume that Felix will be out for the foreseeable future,” the coach said.

Agu’s absence comes as a major blow for Werder Bremen, with the defender having been a key part of their setup in recent weeks. The club will now have to cope without his presence as he begins a long road to recovery.

The full back will hope for a quick recovery to have a chance to make a case for his inclusion in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
