Zamalek’s controversial strikers return amid crisis for crucial Ghazl El Mahalla clash

Zamalek is set for a dramatic encounter with Ghazl El Mahalla, as coach Yannick Ferreira recalls two controversial forwards, Chico Banza and Seifeddine Jaziri, for the pivotal Egyptian Premier League fixture.

Both players have been at the center of internal rifts this season, with repeated clashes between the duo and Ferreira threatening team harmony.

Banza, whose time at Zamalek has been clouded by disputes, from his angry reaction to a substitution in the first game to missing training after a short vacation, was fined and repeatedly sidelined. Jaziri, too, was dropped after disagreements about playing positions and open defiance in training, only rejoining the squad after a belated apology.

With Zamalek’s front line decimated by injuries, most notably to Adi Debagh, Nasser Mansi, and playmaker Abdallah El Said, Ferreira is turning to experience to fill the gaps. The match is seen as a “last chance” for the coach after a tough defeat to Al Ahly, with club management publicly renewing faith but reportedly considering his future.

The game moves to the Suez Canal Authority Stadium, raising the stakes even higher. Zamalek, chasing top spot, must adapt quickly, as Ghazl El Mahalla, dubbed “Kings of Draws” for their gritty performances, pose a real threat with their resilience and dangerous counterattacks. All eyes are on whether Zamalek’s reunited strikeforce can deliver under immense pressure.
