English-Ivorian defender Marc Guehi reaffirms Crystal Palace commitment after failed Liverpool move

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has dismissed speculation about his future, stressing his full commitment to the Eagles following a collapsed transfer to Liverpool on deadline day.

Guehi, who was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast before moving to London as a child, was on the verge of a £35 million switch to Anfield.

The deal, which included a 10 percent sell-on clause, fell apart after Palace were unable to secure adequate replacements in time.

Despite the late drama, the 25-year-old centre-back insists his focus remains firmly with the South London side.

“I don’t have much to say, to be honest,” Guehi told reporters ahead of Palace’s Europa Conference League clash with Dynamo Kyiv.

“I’m focused on playing football and playing for this club. But to the fans I want to say thank you very much for your support. I definitely feel it.”

Reports indicated that Guehi had begun a medical in London and was preparing to sign a five-year contract with Liverpool.

But Palace’s attempts to recruit reinforcements stalled, with defensive target Igor Julio opting instead for West Ham.

The club eventually secured Toulouse’s Jaydee Canvot on a permanent four-year deal and Christantus Uche on loan from Getafe, but both transfers were completed too late to allow Guehi’s departure.

Reflecting on the situation, the England international downplayed the personal setback and emphasized team objectives: “It’s something I don’t think of at all.

“My only focus is on the club. I’m not too worried about any personal accolades. As long as the team is where it needs to be, I’m happy.”

Guehi also underlined the collective ambition within the Palace squad.

“When you’ve tasted success you’re definitely not satisfied and do want more. Everyone at the club strives for more. We’ve seen what we can do. If we keep our heads down, hopefully we can have many more opportunities.”

For now, Guehi remains central to Palace’s campaign in Europe and domestically, while questions over his long-term future are likely to resurface when the next transfer window opens.
