Senegalese midfielder Papa Amadou Diallo to miss several months through injury
Norwich City midfielder Papa Amadou Diallo faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a serious quadriceps injury during the club’s 3-2 home defeat to Wrexham on September 20, 2025.
The 21-year-old Senegalese international, who joined the Canaries from FC Metz this summer, will require surgery, ruling him out for several months, head coach Liam Manning has confirmed.
“It’s not good news. He has seriously injured his quadriceps and will therefore be out for several months. It’s really sad; he will have to undergo surgery,” Manning told the BBC. The announcement represents a significant blow for Norwich, who had integrated Diallo quickly into the squad following his arrival from France.
Diallo, a rising star in Senegalese football, previously earned accolades with the U20 national team, winning the 2023 CHAN and U20 AFCON tournaments.
Since joining Norwich City, he featured in seven league matches, demonstrating his energy, versatility, and technical ability in midfield. His absence leaves a gap in the club’s engine room just as the Championship season intensifies.
The injury occurred during a tense clash at Carrow Road, where Diallo pulled up following a physical challenge. Immediate assessments revealed the severity of the damage to the quadriceps, prompting the club to schedule surgery to facilitate long-term recovery.
Norwich’s medical team is now focused on ensuring a careful rehabilitation program to restore the midfielder to full fitness in the coming months.
Diallo’s early performances had impressed both fans and coaching staff. His work rate, composure on the ball, and ability to link defense with attack had already begun to make him an influential figure in Norwich’s midfield setup.
Manager Manning emphasized the importance of the player’s recovery: “It’s crucial that he takes the necessary time to heal properly. We want him back at 100% strength, ready to contribute at his best.”
The Senegalese international’s injury comes at a challenging period for Norwich City, who are seeking to stabilize their campaign in the English Championship.
The club will now need to adapt its midfield options and may explore temporary tactical adjustments or squad rotations to compensate for the absence of Diallo’s dynamism.
Despite the setback, Diallo remains determined to return stronger. Sources close to the player indicate that he is already focused on rehabilitation and maintaining fitness levels to ensure a smooth comeback once surgery and recovery are complete.
Norwich City supporters will be hoping that their promising midfield talent can resume his progress without complications.
The club is expected to provide regular updates on his recovery timeline and fitness tests in the weeks ahead. For now, Diallo’s absence represents a significant loss, both for Norwich City’s ambitions this season and for Senegal’s national team, who view the young midfielder as one of their most promising talents.
