Al Masry SC showed determination and quality as they secured a 2-1 win over Ghazl El Mahalla in the seventh round of the Egyptian Premier League.

The victory lifted the Port Said club to the summit of the standings, giving their fans plenty to celebrate.

Salah Mohsen was the star for Al Masry, striking early in the 4th minute before calmly converting a penalty in the 51st. Those two goals proved vital, as El Mahalla fought back. Ahmed Shousha pulled one back with a penalty of his own in first-half stoppage time.

Drama continued when Shousha thought he had equalized again, only for the referee to rule it out for offside. To add to El Mahalla’s woes, Tunisian Rachad El Arfaoui received a red card deep into injury time, ending their hopes of recovery.

With the win, Al Masry moved to 14 points under Tunisian coach Nabil El-Kouki. El Mahalla stayed on 8 points in tenth place under coach Alaa Abdel-Aal.

Elsewhere, El Gouna drew 1-1 with Petrojet.
