The Egyptian Football Association has been formally asked to appoint foreign referees for the upcoming summit match between Al Ahly and Zamalek.

The request was made through an official letter sent by the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association, led by Ahmed Diab, to EFA president Hany Abou Rida.

The highly awaited encounter is set for September 29 in the ninth round of the Egyptian Premier League. The call for a non-Egyptian refereeing team came after Al Ahly officially requested foreign officials, seeking fairness and impartiality for such a decisive contest.

The Football Association is now expected to study the request and act to secure a fair environment for both clubs. With tensions always high in Cairo’s biggest football showdown, the choice of referees carries huge weight.

League organizers believe this step can help avoid controversy and maintain trust in the competition’s integrity. The outcome of the match could shape the title race, with Zamalek currently leading the league on 13 points, while Al Ahly sits 15th with 6 points from six games.
