Liverpool manager Arne Slot explains Alexander Isak’s exclusion from Burnley clash

Head coach of Liverpool, Arne Slot has shed light on his decision to exclude Swedish international of Eritrean descent from his squad for the Premier League clash against Burnley.

Isak, who secured a transfer deadline day move to the Premier League giants was left out of the matchday squad on Sunday, with Slot attributing it to lack of minutes in recent weeks.

The enterprising forward had to force his way out of Newcastle United during the summer window, boycotting training to facilitate his move to Liverpool.

Since joining the Reds, the former Newcastle United star has yet to make his debut for the Premier League giants.

Explaining to leave out Isak from the squad, Slot, said, “As everyone knows, he didn’t have any team training at Newcastle, then he went to the national team and played only 15-20 minutes there. We believe that when you have to play three matches in seven days, the best solution is to keep him fresh for the game against Atletico”

“For the coaching staff, for us, it’s important to get the most out of him at the start, but also to keep him available until the end”

The forward is expected to be available for the UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid this week.

Liverpool splashed €145 million to secure the signature of the Swedish-Eritrean striker on transfer deadline day, penning a contract until 2031.
