Algerian defender Yasser Larouci joins Kifisia FC on season-long loan
Yasser Larouci has completed a season-long loan move from Troyes to Greek Super League side Kifisia FC, with no option for the transfer to become permanent.
The Algerian international left-back, 24, makes the switch at a time when most major European transfer windows have already closed, taking advantage of the Greek market’s extended deadline.
The move offers him another chance to reignite a career that has been marked by several loan spells and brief stays across Europe.
Larouci arrives in Greece following a full campaign in England’s Championship with Watford, where he featured in 42 matches and contributed three assists.
Despite his consistency in appearances, the club chose not to retain him beyond his loan period. Prior to that, he also gained valuable experience in the Premier League with Sheffield United during the 2023–24 season, adding to his varied playing history across different levels of competition.
Back at his parent club Troyes, Larouci struggled to establish himself as a first-choice defender, particularly as the French side now competes in Ligue 2.
His lack of continuity there prompted another loan move, with Kifisia offering him a fresh start in a new environment.
For the Greek outfit, newly promoted to the top division, the signing brings much-needed experience in their battle to secure survival.
Larouci’s pace, physicality and top-flight background in France and England are expected to strengthen their defensive options as they navigate the challenges of life in the Super League.
The player himself welcomed the opportunity, sharing a message of appreciation on his social media channels:
“I just want to thank Kifisia FC for giving me the opportunity to continue my development in the Greek Super League.
I have been warmly welcomed and will work hard every day during this loan to bring success to the club.
This league has some big games and I look forward to adding this experience to those I have had in Ligue 1, the Premier League and the Championship.”
Larouci remains under contract with Troyes until 2026, meaning his long-term future will still be determined by the French club.
However, he will hope that his performances in Greece can re-establish his credentials on the European stage and attract further opportunities once his loan spell concludes.
On the international front, his prospects remain uncertain. Although capped by Algeria, Larouci has not been called up to the national squad since Vladimir Petkovic took charge of the Fennecs.
With the Africa Cup of Nations set to take place in 2025, his chances of securing a place in the squad currently appear slim. Nonetheless, a strong showing in Greece could help him return to contention.
For now, Larouci’s focus will be firmly on his new challenge with Kifisia. The loan provides him not only with regular playing time but also a platform to prove his ability in yet another competitive league.
As the Super League season unfolds, both player and club will hope this move proves to be the restart he needs, and the injection of quality Kifisia require.
