Mamelodi Sundowns gaffer Miguel Cardoso emerges as frontrunner for Al Ahly coaching job
Egyptian giants Al Ahly are currently in active talks with Mamelodi Sundowns tactician Miguel Cardoso over the vacant coaching job.
The record Champions League holders are without a substantive coach following the sacking of Spanish trainer Jose Riveiro last week after a string of unimpressive results this season.
Riveiro left Al Ahly after just four month spell at the club. His sacking stem from the club’s 2-0 home defeat to reigning CAF Champions League holders, Pyramids FC at Cairo International Stadium.
Despite not being the only candidate for the vacant coaching job, Cardoso appears to be the front-runner. Al Ahly are ready to offer the Portuguese coach a very lucrative and attractive contract to secure his signature.
Meanwhile, Cardoso has yet to decide to make a decision regarding since he has a running contract with the South African giants.
Cardoso took charge of Mamelodi Sundowns last winter. Since then, he has managed “the Brazilians” in 42 matches, recording 27 wins, 9 draws, and 6 losses.
Al Ahly are currently ranked 13th in the Egyptian Premier League this season, accumulating just five points from the initial four games.
