'It’s not a dream anymore' - English-Nigerian star Eberechi Eze receives powerful message from Arsenal legend Henry

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has delivered a heartfelt message to new signing Eberechi Eze after the midfielder completed his move from Crystal Palace.

The 27-year-old was unveiled to supporters at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, following a £68 million transfer that ended Arsenal’s battle with Tottenham Hotspur for his signature.

Eze, who was born in London to Nigerian parents, grew up an avid Arsenal supporter and has frequently spoken about Henry being one of his greatest inspirations.

Earlier this year, he named the Frenchman alongside Ronaldinho as the two players he spent hours watching on YouTube while learning his craft.

“Henry was number one. Henry and Ronaldinho. Those were the two on YouTube you were watching,” Eze said in an earlier interview.

“They enjoy what they’re doing, they love what they’re doing, they have a passion for it and that inspires.”

Henry’s words came as an emotional moment for the midfielder, who admitted it had always been a dream to wear the Arsenal shirt. Speaking to the club’s official website, Henry encouraged the new signing to seize the moment.

“First and foremost, welcome to the Arsenal. You don’t understand how happy we all are,” Henry said.

“We all know how much you wanted to play for The Arsenal, and wear the cannon at the Emirates. There you go – it’s not a dream anymore, it’s not a utopia. That has become reality. Make sure that you make it count.”

Henry reminded Eze of the values expected at Arsenal. “Remember, when I first arrived at the Arsenal, they told me that it is a club that has class, it’s a family club, and you got to fight no matter what. All the very best, I’m so happy. Come on The Arsenal!”

Eze could make his competitive debut for Mikel Arteta’s side next weekend when the Gunners travel to Anfield to face reigning champions Liverpool.

Overwhelmed by the gesture from his idol, Eze said simply: “He’s got a statue outside, bro… this is powerful.”
