Wydad Casablanca and Espérance de Tunis are locked in a transfer battle for Nigerian midfielder Peter Agba, with both clubs determined to secure the highly rated 22-year-old.

Agba, born in December 2002, has been a standout performer for Slovenian champions NK Olimpija Ljubljana, where he plays as a defensive midfielder.

Known for his strong left foot, commanding presence, and ability to read the game, he was instrumental in Olimpija’s league triumph last season and remains under contract until 2028.

Espérance were the first to make their move, opening official negotiations with Olimpija as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League campaign.

Wydad, however, were quick to respond. The Moroccan side presented a concrete offer of their own, emphasising their ambitious sporting project and the stability of their technical structure in a bid to sway the player.

The duel highlights the increasingly competitive nature of the African transfer market.

Traditionally fierce rivals on the pitch, Wydad and Espérance are now extending their rivalry into the boardroom, each determined not to cede ground in the race for one of the continent’s brightest young talents.

Agba’s career trajectory has already attracted widespread attention.

He first came to prominence with Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets, impressing at the 2019 UFOA U17 Tournament before featuring at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations and the U17 World Cup in Brazil later that year.

His development continued in Croatia, where he represented Zagorec and Dubrava before making the leap to Slovenia.

At Olimpija, his progress has been rapid, establishing himself as a mainstay in the squad and drawing interest from some of Africa’s most successful clubs.

For both Wydad and Espérance, securing Agba’s signature could prove decisive in shaping their continental ambitions.

Wydad see him as a cornerstone for their long-term project, while Espérance view him as the missing link in their quest to regain dominance in the CAF Champions League.

The final decision now rests with the player, whose choice could not only shape his own career trajectory but also influence the balance of power in North African football.

For Agba, this move represents more than just a transfer — it is a pivotal moment that may define the next stage of his journey in the game.
