Bilal El Khannouss has identified Crystal Palace as his preferred destination this summer, despite attracting strong interest from several Premier League clubs.

The 21-year-old Moroccan international, who registered 32 appearances, two goals and three assists in his debut Premier League season, has quickly emerged as one of the most sought-after young attacking midfielders in English football.

His creativity and versatility have put him on the radar of a number of sides aiming to strengthen their squads ahead of the new campaign.

Earlier in the window, Newcastle United were linked with a potential approach, particularly after securing Champions League qualification. Tottenham Hotspur also placed him on their shortlist as they explore options in midfield.

Even newly promoted Leeds United were prepared to make a substantial financial commitment to secure the Atlas Lion’s signature.

Despite the widespread interest, reports from Foot Mercato suggest that Crystal Palace have now moved to the front of the queue. The South London club, who finished 12th in the league last season, have targeted El Khannouss as a direct replacement for Eberechi Eze, who has been the subject of negotiations with Tottenham.

Palace are understood to have already reached an agreement with the player over a four-year deal, signalling their determination to bring him to Selhurst Park.

The only obstacle remaining is a deal with Leicester City, who still own El Khannouss’ registration rights. His contract with the Foxes runs until 2028, and while Palace submitted an opening offer worth €23m, Leicester swiftly rejected it.

The Midlands club reportedly value the Moroccan attacker at closer to €25m, the figure attached to his release clause.

For now, El Khannouss continues to showcase his talent in the Championship while discussions over his future continue. He has already demonstrated his influence this season, providing two assists during Leicester’s opening-day 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Although he was unable to prevent his side falling to a 2-1 defeat against Preston North End this weekend, his sharpness on the ball and ability to create opportunities once again drew praise.

At just 21, El Khannouss already boasts 22 senior international caps and one goal for Morocco, underlining his rapid rise within both club and country. His technical ability, combined with his composure in possession, has marked him out as one of the brightest young prospects emerging from North Africa in recent years.

Should Palace succeed in finalising a deal, his arrival would provide manager Oliver Glasner with a dynamic creative option in midfield, one capable of linking play and unlocking defences.

The move would also represent a significant statement for the Eagles as they seek to consolidate their Premier League status while preparing for the potential departure of key players.

As negotiations continue, Crystal Palace remain confident they can reach an agreement with Leicester before the close of the transfer window. For El Khannouss, the prospect of becoming a central figure in Palace’s plans appears to outweigh interest from other top-flight clubs, setting the stage for what could become one of the most notable transfers of the summer.
