Hellas Verona are considering a move for Malian right-back Woyo Coulibaly, with a loan agreement and an option to buy among the proposals under discussion.

The Serie A side are looking to strengthen their defence before the close of the transfer window and see the 26-year-old as a potential solution. Coulibaly, who currently plays for Leicester City, has endured a difficult spell in England and could be set for a return to Italy, where he previously impressed with Parma.

Proven Track Record in Italy

Coulibaly established a solid reputation during his time at Parma, making 88 appearances across all competitions. During that spell, he registered one goal and six assists, consistently showing his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively from the right flank.

His reliable performances earned him recognition in Serie B and Serie A, where his physical presence and tactical discipline stood out.

Verona’s interest stems not only from his proven qualities but also from the familiarity Italian football has with his style. Club officials believe the Malian international could adapt quickly to their setup, making him a valuable addition at a crucial point in their season.

Struggles in England

Since making the move to Leicester City, Coulibaly’s career has been hindered by persistent injury problems. Fitness concerns have limited him to just five appearances for the Foxes – four in the Premier League and one in the FA Cup – totalling only 137 minutes of action.

The lack of playing time has stalled his progress, prompting speculation about a temporary move to revive his career. A loan switch would allow him to gain regular minutes, with Verona exploring the possibility of including a purchase option should the move prove successful.

Verona’s Transfer Strategy

Hellas Verona, currently working to reinforce their squad, have identified the right-back position as an area requiring urgent attention. Injuries and inconsistent form have left gaps in defence, and the club’s management sees Coulibaly as an opportunity to bring in a player with both international pedigree and Serie A experience.

A deal structured around a loan with an option to buy would give Verona the flexibility to evaluate his fitness and long-term suitability without committing immediately to a permanent transfer.

For Leicester, the arrangement could provide Coulibaly with a chance to regain form while also offering the potential for a permanent move away if the Italian side take up the option.

Malian International Ambition

Coulibaly, a full Malian international, has expressed his ambition to re-establish himself as a regular starter at club level, a step crucial to maintaining his place in the national team.

A return to Serie A could provide the platform he needs, given his familiarity with Italian football and his proven record in the country.

With Verona weighing up their options and negotiations expected to progress, the coming weeks could be decisive for the 26-year-old’s future. Should the deal materialise, Coulibaly would have the chance to revive his career in familiar surroundings and reinforce his standing as one of Mali’s key defensive figures abroad.
