Al Ahly gave their fans a night to remember at Cairo Stadium, storming to a 4-1 victory over Pharco in the Egyptian Premier League.
It was the Red Devils’ first triumph under Spanish coach Jose Riveiro, moving them to four points and second place on goal difference behind Al Masry.
From the opening whistle, Al Ahly pressed with intent. Mohamed Sherif broke the deadlock in the 10th minute, heading home a Mohamed Hani cross. Moments later, Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” thought he had doubled the lead, but his goal was ruled out for offside. The crowd didn’t have to wait long though, as Ahmed Mostafa “Zizo” made it 2-0 in the 21st minute with a precise header from Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane’s pass.
Zizo struck again in the 59th minute, before Pharco pulled one back through Mohamed Fakhry after a goalkeeper error. Any hopes of a comeback were dashed when substitute Neš Gradisar scored Al Ahly’s fourth in the 75th minute.
A late red card to Hani didn’t spoil the celebrations, as Al Ahly marked a winning start under Riveiro.
