Burkina Faso head coach Issa Balboné has expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness ahead of their second fixture at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), following a disappointing opening defeat to hosts Tanzania.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Balboné remained composed as he addressed concerns surrounding the team’s performance, assuring fans and media that the Stallions are prepared to bounce back.

“We started badly by losing to the host country, but we must keep our heads high,” Balboné stated. “Here, we play to win.

The most important thing is to show what we can do and make all Burkinabè proud.”

Burkina Faso’s campaign began on a sour note with a defeat that Balboné attributed, in part, to travel-related fatigue. Despite the early setback, the coach insisted the squad is now physically and mentally prepared for the challenges ahead.

“The fatigue of the trip has taken its toll, but now all the players are ready,” he said. “We don’t fear any opponent. The key is preparation.”

Balboné’s remarks underscored a sense of resilience within the Burkina Faso camp, as the team aims to regain momentum and keep their CHAN hopes alive.

The coach emphasised that the group has regrouped since the loss and is focused on correcting mistakes made in the first game.

Supporting his manager’s sentiments, central defender Patrick Malo also spoke confidently, reinforcing the team’s unified mindset going into their next match.

“Losing the first match is tough, but it doesn’t weaken us,” Malo said. “We’ll give everything we have to rectify the situation and show a better side. There’s no opponent to underestimate; every team here has its value.”

Malo, a seasoned figure in the national squad, highlighted the importance of mentality in overcoming adversity. His comments mirrored the coach’s view that the group must look forward rather than dwell on what went wrong.

The Stallions are now focused on turning the tide in their next outing, knowing that another slip could significantly reduce their chances of advancing in the competition.

With training sessions now held in full intensity and morale reportedly improving within the squad, Balboné appears to have refocused his players for what could be a defining moment in their CHAN campaign.

The coach also hinted at potential tactical adjustments, though he remained tight-lipped about specific changes to the starting XI.

What remains clear, however, is his unwavering belief in the capabilities of his players.

“Everyone is ready. The spirit is good, and we’re approaching this next match with the right mindset,” Balboné concluded.

Burkina Faso’s second match will be crucial not only for their tournament progression but also in re-establishing confidence among supporters back home.

As the players prepare to take to the field once again, the message from both the technical bench and the dressing room is clear: redemption is within reach, and the fight is far from over.
