Jay Jay Okocha influenced my playing career – Ghana forward Mohammed Kudus
Ghana international Mohammed Kudus has revealed that Nigerian football legend Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha was a major inspiration during his formative years.
The 24-year-old midfielder recently completed a £55 million move from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur, signing a five-year contract.
Speaking to Hayters TV, Kudus emphasized his commitment to both attacking and defensive duties at his new club.
“In as much as I offer a lot offensively, defensively I want to be able to make the team feel like they can also depend on me.
“The full backs also need me in times like that, especially in games where we have to be defending sometimes so it’s something I am bringing to the team,” Kudus added.
Since joining the Premier League from Ajax, Kudus has been a standout performer. During his two seasons at West Ham, the former FC Nordsjaelland product netted 13 goals and provided 12 assists across 65 league appearances.
Reflecting on his influences, Kudus singled out Okocha for his flair and creativity.
“I’ve always seen the game like always trying to be different, we have a lot of passers and there is less guys like who try to dribble and take on and that’s how I’ve always grown to play, try to entertain the fans as much as I can so it has always been part of my game,” Kudus said.
“A lot of players, but in Africa, I will say J J Okocha, I really love how he was playing,” he added.
Having impressed in Tottenham’s preseason fixtures, Kudus is eager to make a significant impact as the new season approaches.
