Burnley are closing in on a move for Franco-Nigerian defensive midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old enterprising midfielder is set for a permanent departure from Chelsea, having struggled to break into the team since his arrival.

Ugochukwu completed a €27m move from formative club Stade Rennais to Chelsea back in the summer of 2023, but failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

However, the midfielder was farmed out on loan to Southampton last season, where he made 31 appearances as the Saint suffered relegation at the end of the campaign.

Following the loan spell, Ugochukwu returned to his parent club, where he made a mere 15 appearances. However, his time at Stamford Bridge is seemingly coming to an end.

Burnley, who has made a return to the Premier League has reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign the Franco-Nigerian midfielder on a permanent deal.

Ugochukwu will now travel to undergo a medical before signing a five-year contract for Burnley this summer.
