Al Ahly is setting its sights on a historic celebration, and they want Barcelona to be part of it.
The Egyptian giants are hoping to face the Spanish powerhouse in a friendly match in 2029 to mark the grand opening of their new stadium in 6th of October City, which is currently under construction. This bold move was at the heart of a recent meeting between Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib and Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
“Al-Ahly requested cooperation in replicating the Barcelona Museum in the new sports city, and also invited Laporta to visit Egypt and the club,” a club source told Kooora.
The two clubs also discussed coach training opportunities in Barcelona and ways Al-Ahly could learn from Barcelona’s youth academy system, a model known worldwide for producing top football talent.
El Khatib’s visit to Spain included meetings with Laporta, Barcelona vice president Rafael Yuste, and museum director Jordi Benitas. The discussions laid early groundwork for what could be a groundbreaking partnership between two storied football institutions.
