Marc Brys has officially stepped down as head coach of Cameroon’s national football team, citing unresolved salary issues in a resignation letter submitted to the Ministry of Sports on Monday, 21 July 2025.
The Belgian tactician, who was appointed in April 2024, brought his tenure to an abrupt end after more than two months without pay, a situation he described as a clear violation of his contractual rights.
In his letter addressed directly to the Minister of Sports, Brys accused the Cameroonian authorities of breaching the terms of his employment, making his continued role untenable.
“In accordance with Article VII, paragraph 4 of the contract signed on 8 April 2024,” Brys wrote, “I am compelled to unilaterally terminate the agreement due to non-payment of my salary and that of my technical staff for over 60 days.”
He further highlighted that Article VI, paragraph 7 of the agreement stipulated salaries were to be disbursed no later than the 8th of each month — a condition, he stressed, that had not been met.
The former coach also demanded the full residual value of his contract as compensation and urged the Ministry to respond promptly to his notice to avoid legal proceedings, including the potential escalation of the dispute to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
His resignation deepens the turmoil surrounding the Indomitable Lions, who are now left without a head coach as they face critical fixtures in the coming months.
The departure also underscores broader issues within the administration of Cameroonian football, particularly concerning the governance and management of national team operations.
During his brief spell at the helm, Brys’s time was overshadowed by institutional tensions and a fraught relationship between the coaching staff and sporting authorities.
