Wessam Abou Ali has publicly apologized to Al Ahly fans, teammates, and club officials after his recent absence from training sparked tension.
The Palestinian forward had missed several training sessions in protest of Al Ahly’s refusal to sanction a move to American side Columbus Crew. His actions led to his exclusion from the club’s pre-season camp in Tunisia.
In a heartfelt video shared by Al Ahly’s official social media, Abou Ali admitted his behavior was wrong.
“I admit that I didn’t act properly. What I did is not befitting of a player who belongs to a major team like Al-Ahly,” he said.
He revealed that personal family issues influenced his request to leave and expressed hope that the club’s management would understand his situation.
“Regardless of whether the deal goes through, I’m proud of the time I spent at Al Ahly… Without it, I wouldn’t have won these titles or participated in the Club World Cup,” he added.
Abou Ali ended by thanking fans, saying, “I will never forget this period.”
