Al Ahly turn up the heat with double training and tight squad rules
Al Ahly are shifting gears as they gear up for a tough new season under Spanish boss Jose Riveiro.
After an 18-day break, the team returned to action on Monday, kicking things off with physical tests. Now, the intensity has been raised with a packed schedule and new rules to boost focus.
Today’s training will run in two shifts, morning and evening, at the club’s Mokhtar El-Tetsh base. This follows Riveiro’s decision to hold sessions on Thursday and Friday before the team heads to Tunisia. Al Ahly will spend 11 days in the city of Tabarka, locking in a closed training camp that includes friendlies against Stade Tunisien and CA Bizertin.
A source close to the club revealed that Riveiro is enforcing a stricter environment. Player and staff numbers are being trimmed at El-Tetsh, with only essential personnel allowed near the pitch. Most of the medical and rehab staff will work from the stadium’s offices.
To fine-tune his squad, Riveiro has also asked Sporting Director Mohamed Youssef to release certain players, part of a larger plan to sharpen the group’s focus.
