Algerian international Ibrahim Maza sets sights on growth and success at Bayer Leverkusen

Ibrahim Maza has opened up about his ambitions and first impressions as he prepares for his debut full season with Bayer Leverkusen.

The 19-year-old Algerian international, who joined the German side from Hertha Berlin, is aiming to develop his game and learn from the wealth of talent around him at the Bundesliga club.

Maza, widely regarded as one of Algeria’s most promising young players, signed a long-term contract with Leverkusen until 2030.

His arrival comes at a pivotal moment for the club, which saw key playmaker Florian Wirtz depart for Liverpool earlier this summer.

Many see Maza as a natural successor to Wirtz, though the teenager remains grounded in his approach.

Speaking to the club’s official media channels, Maza reflected on his first weeks of training and life at Leverkusen.

The intensity is higher and it’s more challenging. The quality of the players and many other things make it better than I expected, and the atmosphere is fantastic. The players helped me adapt and feel comfortable. It was very enjoyable, he said.

Despite interest from Premier League clubs, Maza chose to continue his progression in the Bundesliga—a league known for developing young talent.

His decision underscores a clear focus on steady development rather than rushing into the spotlight.

When asked about his goals, Maza emphasized humility and a deep commitment to learning.

I get along well with everyone. I want to work hard, seek to develop myself and learn from more experienced players, he stated.

The Algerian playmaker is no stranger to high expectations.

Having caught the eye with his creativity, vision, and technical ability during his time at Hertha Berlin’s youth setup, Maza’s transition to a top-tier Bundesliga club places him firmly in the spotlight.

His maturity, however, suggests he is ready for the challenge.

By choosing Leverkusen, Maza has positioned himself in a structured and competitive environment where he can grow alongside seasoned professionals while being mentored by some of the league’s top coaches.

With a six-year contract in hand and the club backing his potential, Maza is entering a decisive phase in his young career—one he hopes will be defined by hard work, learning, and long-term success.
