English-Nigerian star Eberechi Eze given extended break as Palace clarify preseason absence

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Eberechi Eze’s absence from their preseason win against Millwall was pre-arranged and unrelated to ongoing transfer speculation.

Palace, who began their preseason campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Millwall, saw Jesurun Rak-Sakyi net the only goal of the match.

The game also featured debuts for new signings Walter Benítez in goal and Croatian fullback Borna Sosa, both of whom impressed in their first appearances for the South London club.

Eze, born in England to Nigerian parents, was notably absent from the squad, prompting speculation amid reported interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Palace were quick to dismiss any links between his omission and potential transfer talks.

Club officials clarified that Eze, along with other players involved in post-season international fixtures, was granted additional rest before rejoining full training.

The England midfielder featured for the national team in June and is expected to return in the coming days.

“There is no cause for concern regarding Eberechi,” a club source said. “Players who were on international duty were given extra time to rest and recover. His absence was planned and had nothing to do with rumours in the media.”

Palace continue their preseason preparations as they gear up for the 2025/26 Premier League campaign under manager Oliver Glasner.
