2024 WAFCON: Morocco come from behind to beat DR Congo 4-2 after pulsating encounter

Morocco put up a spirited performance on Wednesday night to defeat DR Congo 4-2 in their second Group A match at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The host nation, after the win, looks set to advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.

In today’s encounter, D.R Congo stunned Morocco after just six minutes into the first half, scoring through a strike from Merveille Kanjinga to take the lead.

After the setback, Morocco stayed focused and upped their game, turning the game around before the halftime break.

A sensational brace from star attacker and captain Ghizlane Chebbak in the 25^th and 43^rd minutes, respectively, ensured that the host nation went into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Although DR Congo pulled level in the 70^th minute when Flavine Mawete scored, goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Yasmine Mrabet later in the match sealed a resounding 4-2 victory for Morocco.

The result means Morocco stays top of the Group A standings after the second round of group games.

Zambia are in second on four points, just like Morocco, while Senegal and DR Congo follow in third and fourth, respectively.
