Algeria’s women’s national football team touched down in Casablanca on Thursday evening ahead of the start of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to run from July 5 to 26, 2025.
The squad received a warm reception at the airport from Algeria’s Consul General in Casablanca, Mr. Djoudi Belghit, marking a ceremonial welcome for the team as they begin their continental campaign.
Following the formalities, the delegation proceeded to their hotel to begin recovery and preparations ahead of their opening fixtures.
Led by head coach Wissam Bouzid, the Algerian players are set to commence their final phase of training in Morocco on Friday.
The camp will focus on tactical readiness and physical conditioning as the Greens aim to make a strong impression at this year’s tournament.
In a related development, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the newly designed trophy for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement issued by the continental body, the trophy is described as a powerful symbol of “equality, unity and excellence” in African women’s football.
The new design draws inspiration from the men’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy and introduces a creative concept shaped like a blooming flower.
Each petal represents a participating national team, reinforcing a message of inclusivity and celebration of the continent’s growing influence in the women’s game.
“At the heart of this elegant floral shape emerges a golden sphere, subtly designed like a football. Adorned with a shining gold map of Africa, it reflects the continent’s ambition, pride, and global impact in women’s football,” CAF stated.
The trophy is crafted using a blend of matte silver and gold, with a body framed by a circular gold ring engraved with the CAF logo.
According to the governing body, the design reflects its commitment to promoting and developing women’s football across its 54 member associations.
With the tournament now days away, anticipation is building among fans and teams alike.
For Algeria, the group stage will present a significant test as they face off against some of the continent’s strongest sides in pursuit of a historic performance.
As the squad settles into their base in Casablanca, their focus shifts entirely to the task at hand: competing with passion, discipline, and a desire to leave their mark on African football’s grandest women’s stage.
