Spanish giants, FC Barcelona, are reportedly set to make formal steps this week in their bid to sign Nico Williams.
The La Liga champions have been linked with a move to sign the Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent in the past month.
Although the financial power of the club has been questioned, sources have reported that FC Barcelona are ready to activate the €62 million release clause of the Athletic Club forward.
As widely reported, the club is prioritising the signing of Nico Williams this summer.
Last summer, Williams opted to remain at San Mamés to help Athletic secure European football. But with Barcelona now determined to land their man, they are prepared to pay the full release clause if an agreement on staggered payments proves elusive.
Meanwhile, the Catalan club is also working to lower its wage bill to accommodate Williams’ registration under La Liga’s salary cap.
It is understood that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is excited about the potential signing of Nico Williams and believes he will be a good addition to his squad.
