Brentford are preparing a move for Lorient forward Sambou Soumano, as the Senegalese striker continues to attract growing interest from Premier League clubs following a prolific season in Ligue 2.

The 24-year-old has just completed an impressive campaign with FC Lorient, scoring 14 goals in 32 appearances to help the club secure promotion to Ligue 1.

His form has not gone unnoticed, with multiple English clubs now circling as he enters the final year of his contract.

According to Football Insider, Brentford have made Soumano a priority target as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025–26 Premier League season.

The Bees, undergoing a transitional period following the departure of Thomas Frank, are keen to refresh their squad under newly promoted head coach Keith Andrews.

Soumano, who joined Lorient in 2021, spent time on loan with Eupen in Belgium and Rodez in France during the 2022–23 season.

He was loaned out again to Quevilly-Rouen for the 2023–24 campaign before returning to Lorient, where he played a key role in the club’s promotion push.

Brentford’s interest in Soumano comes at a crucial time, with the West London side facing the potential exit of several key players.

Midfielder Christian Norgaard and Cameroonian winger Bryan Mbeumo are both reportedly close to departures, adding urgency to the club’s recruitment drive following goalkeeper Mark Flekken’s move earlier in the window.

While Brentford are seen as frontrunners in the race, they are not alone.

Newly promoted Burnley and Sunderland are also monitoring Soumano’s situation.

Both clubs are looking to add firepower in their bid to survive their return to top-flight football and view the Senegalese striker as a viable and cost-effective addition.

With Soumano’s contract set to expire in 2026 but entering its final year, Lorient may be inclined to sell now to avoid losing him for free next summer.

That could pave the way for a competitive bidding war, particularly as his combination of youth, pace, and finishing ability fits the profile sought by clubs aiming to rebuild or stabilise.

For Soumano, a move to the Premier League would mark the next step in a career that has steadily gained momentum.

After successful spells in France’s lower tiers and a breakthrough year in Ligue 2, the Senegalese international now finds himself on the verge of England’s top stage.
