An Espérance Sportive de Tunis supporter has been arrested in the United States after striking a Wydad Casablanca fan during a heated exchange on the sidelines of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The altercation, which unfolded in a public area, was caught on camera and quickly circulated on social media platforms, drawing widespread attention and sparking debate among football communities online.

In the video, the Espérance fan can be seen reacting physically after what appeared to be ongoing verbal provocations from a Wydad supporter.

Eyewitnesses reported that tensions between the two fans escalated quickly, leading to the Espérance supporter throwing a punch.

The scene unfolded in the presence of numerous bystanders, including supporters from both clubs and several passersby, before local law enforcement intervened.

Three police officers promptly responded to the incident, restraining the Tunisian fan and escorting him from the area.

He was taken into custody at the scene, with onlookers witnessing the swift intervention.

While the incident did not result in serious injury, it has highlighted the persistent tensions that can exist between rival North African clubs—even on neutral ground far from home.

Espérance and Wydad have long been fierce adversaries in African club football, with their rivalry marked by intense encounters and passionate fanbases.

This latest incident, though isolated, underscores the challenges authorities face in managing fan behavior during international tournaments, especially when historic rivalries cross borders.

The Club World Cup, which brings together champions from each confederation, is often seen as a celebration of global football.

However, emotions can still run high, particularly when former continental foes are present in the same city.

The identities of those involved in the incident have not been released, and local authorities have not yet issued a formal statement on potential charges.

However, tournament organizers and local law enforcement are expected to reinforce security measures around fan zones to prevent any further disruptions.

Both Espérance and Wydad have not publicly commented on the matter, but the incident has reignited conversations about fan conduct and the responsibility of supporters to uphold the spirit of the game, especially on international stages.
