Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu eyes AS Monaco exit amid growing interest from Europe
Mohammed Salisu is seeking a move away from AS Monaco after a frustrating spell on the sidelines, with several clubs across Europe showing early signs of interest in the Ghanaian defender.
According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the 26-year-old centre-back is unhappy with his current situation in the Principality and is exploring options for a fresh start.
Though Saudi Arabia has emerged as a potential destination, European sides, including Turkish giants Galatasaray, are also monitoring his availability.
Salisu, who joined Monaco from Southampton with high expectations, endured a difficult second half of the season under Adi Hütter.
Despite his early promise, the Ghana international found himself frozen out of the squad, making just two Ligue 1 appearances — amounting to a mere two minutes on the pitch — across the final 14 matches of the campaign.
Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro acknowledged the defender’s dissatisfaction in a recent interview.
“He finished this season disappointed,” Scuro told L’Équipe in late May, hinting at Salisu’s growing discontent over his lack of involvement.
Although he remains under contract at Monaco until 2028, Salisu is now viewed as a likely departure during the upcoming transfer window.
His name has surfaced on several scouting reports, particularly for clubs seeking to bolster their defensive ranks with an experienced yet still developing profile.
While Galatasaray are yet to open formal negotiations, their interest aligns with a broader trend of clubs exploring Salisu’s situation as a potential low-cost opportunity.
The Turkish side, known for attracting high-profile talents, could offer the former Real Valladolid man a platform to relaunch his career with consistent minutes and European competition.
Salisu’s limited role in Monaco’s campaign has been a surprising turn for a player who impressed in the Premier League and arrived in Ligue 1 with a reputation for physicality, reading of the game, and composure under pressure.
His diminishing presence in the squad has puzzled observers and fuelled speculation about his long-term future at the Stade Louis II.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Salisu’s name is expected to feature prominently in discussions, with his desire for a new challenge now public and his career at a pivotal crossroads.
