Abdelmoumène Djabou Out for Algeria’s 2015 AFCON Qualifiers
Algeria will be without Abdelmoumène Djabou for their upcoming 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Ethiopia and Mali. The Club Africain midfielder has sustained an injury during a recent Tunisian Ligue 1 match, and it is expected that he will miss both crucial fixtures.
In his absence, Algerian coach Christian Gourcuff has called up Ibrahim Chenihi, a 24-year-old attacking midfielder from MC El Eulma, as a replacement.
“Since Djabou is injured, I decided to call up another player in his place. So, I called up MCEE midfielder Chenihi,” announced Gourcuff.
This marks Chenihi’s first call-up to the Algerian senior squad, despite having participated in previous training camps under Gourcuff. The midfielder has shown solid form at the club level, and his inclusion reflects the coach’s confidence in his ability to contribute to the team.
Despite Djabou’s absence, Algeria has already secured its qualification for the final phase of the 2015 AFCON, making these upcoming matches less critical in terms of progression, but still significant for maintaining momentum and cohesion within the squad.
With Chenihi now called up, Algeria will look to maintain their strong position in the qualifiers and continue their preparations for the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
